Ourimbah was awesome today. Three flying laps around one of the most demanding XC courses going. A great turnout from TORC, it was really good to see so many Peloton jerseys and some pretty good results we had too. The first sign of trouble was when I passed Mike Orr with his chain hanging over his shoulder....."Got a chain breaker?" he pleaded, sorry mate...no spares today...well he obviously found someone to help him out but maybe regretting it now after coming to grief on the roller coaster and trying to remove a stump with his cheek...he sounds "ok"...hope you get better soon Mike!
At the top of the first climb Mike Farkas went flying past and went on to take 3rd overall, then half way into the first lap I could see Steve Knight catching up. I upped the tempo a little as he caught me and offered him the track but he was content to follow my wheel for the rest of the race, it was great fun (chatting a bit) and watching listening to each other push as hard as we could to keep ahead of the rest of the field. Knowing how quick Steve is downhill, he really pushed me to my limits and thankfully I was able to keep the bike pointing in the right direction.
At the start of the second lap we could see Simey and Binnsy not far behind so we knew we had to keep up the pace. In the end I just pipped Steve at the post but it could have gone either way. So thanks to all for turning up and making this a real TORC Club Championship and special thanks to all the folks at CCOMTB who made it such a great race.
